اندهش الشاب كثيراً من حالة البرود التي بدا عليها رئيس الخدمة بالكنيسة عندما روى له عن الحاج "مصطفى" وحزنه الشديد على موته، لتزداد دهشته أكثر حينما سمعه وهو يجيبه على سؤاله عن رأيه في مصير الرجل بعد الموت قائلًا في صرامة "الجحيم طبعًا.. انت عندك شك في ده؟" لمعت عينا الرجل بوضوح فسرت رجفة بجسد "ميشيل" لكن ما الذي فعله الحاج "مصطفى" في حياته حتى يلقي ذلك المصير؟! ألم يكن أمينًا في عمله كما كان أيضًا أمينًا مع أسرته؟ تساءل الشاب في داخله وأحنى رأسه في أسى وظل صامتًا بعد أن أحس بالندم على سؤاله لرئيس خدمته، بينما انشغل رئيس الخدمة بترتيب بعض الأوراق على مكتبه، وقبل أن يغادر "ميشيل" الحجرة نهض الرجل من مكتبه، وتوجه نحوه ليقف أمامه مباشرة ويقول في جدية: "أسمع يا مشيل.. أنا عايزك تفكر في مصيرك وحدك بس وسيبك من مصير أي حد تاني غيرك" صمت الرجل لبرهة ثم عاد يقول وهو ينظر في عيني "ميشيل" - خليك أناني في خلاص نفسك" أناني في خلاص نفسي؟!!.
