المتأمل فيما يصنعه المناطقه، فى أى عصر، وبأى النتائج، يجد أن سبيلهم جميعا هو تحليل الفكرة الواحدة، أو مجموع الأفكار، تحليلا يردها الى هياكلها المجردة، ثم لا يلبث هذا المتأمل أن يتبين أن تلك العملية هى نفسها ما يؤديه كل فيلسوف فى أى ميدان يتعرض للتفكير فيه، اذ ليس ما يفعله الفيلسوف ازاء موضوعه سوى أن يحفر الأرض من تحته ليلتمس بذوره الأولى فى أبسط بساطتها، مما أغرى بعض الفلاسفة المعاصرين أن يعكسوا القول بأن "المنطق فرع من الفلسفة" ليجعلوه "الفلسفة فى أى ميدان من ميادينها فرع من المنطق".
وانه ليبدو لى أن أقرب الوسائل التى نعرف بها كيف التفكير عند أمة معينة فى عصر معين هو أن نرى على أى "منطق" يسير الناس فى عملياتهم الفكرية، لأن ذلك يكشف الطريقة التى يقبلون بها الأفكار أو يرفضونها، والطريقة التى يفهمون بها ما يفهمونه أو لا يفهمونه.
وأى غرابة بعد ذلك فى أن نجد أسلافنا العرب، قد جعلوا "المنطق" ودراسته من أهم المميزات التى يجب أن يتميز بها "المثقف"، فليكن اختصاصه العلمى أو الفكرى أيا ما يكون، فلابد أن يكون "المنطق" بعض معالمه، ومن هنا كثر الباحثون فى المنطق بينهم كثرة تلفت النظر.
والكتاب الذى بين أيدينا الآن، "تطور المنطق العربى" هو من أدق وأشمل ما يعرض علينا تلك الصورة الفنية للدراسة المنطقية عند أسلافنا، وهو من تأليف "نيقولا ريشر"، وقام بنقله الى العربية نقلا علميا مزودا بالتعليقات، ومقدما له بمقدمة علمية مستفيضة الأستاذ الدكتور محمد مهران، أستاذ المنطق بكلية الآداب بجامعة القاهرة، وحبنا اطمئنانا أن يترجم مختص عن مختص، وأن تكون مادة الموضوع مناطقة العرب الأولين. فللموضوع أهميته، وللمؤلف مكانته، وللمترجم قدرته.
