يقع هذا الكتاب من البحث البلاغي موقع المهاد الذي يوقفك على أصول النظرية البلاغية عند العرب، وأهم الروافد المعرفية التي توسلت بها في رسم حقولها، واختيار مصطلحاتها، وتحديد مفاهيمها، وهو مدخل لا بد منه لدراسة البلاغة العربية، ونحن نلتمس الطرق إلى تأصيلها ومحاولة تجديدها، على نحو يستعيد قراءة تراثنا قراءة واعية لا تنقطع فيها الصلة بين التليد والطريف، ولا تغض الطرف عنهما؛ لأن أولى خطوات التجديد- كما يقول الشيخ أمين الخولي- أن تقتل القديم بحثًا!
وقد جاء الكتاب في فصول خمسة، عني أولها بمصطلح (البلاغة) والأطوار التي مر بها مفهومه؛ حتى استقامت له طريقته في منظومة العلوم العربية من حيث البنية والوظيفة التي يؤديها. واهتم ثانيها بمفهوم (الفصاحة) والفرق بينه وبين مفهوم البلاغة، ثم عرض لمقاييس فصاحة الكلمة المفردة والكلام المؤلف، وما يؤول منها إلى الذوق والاستعمال، وما يستند إلى القواعد الثابتة في نحو العربية وتصريفها. وجاء ثالث الفصول عن (نظرية النظم وعلم المعاني) فتناول مفهوم النظم في اللغة، والاصطلاح، وأسسه عند عبد القاهر، وأثر نظريته في نشأة علم المعاني وبلورة مباحثه وتحديد مجالات البحث فيه. وتناول الفصل الرابع (مفهوم البيان وتطوره) في اللغة والأطوار التي مر بها في الاصطلاح، ومنزلة علم البيان بين علوم البلاغة، وأثر مبحث الدلالة في مفهوم البيان وتحديد طرائق البحث فيه. أما الفصل الخامس فتناول (البديع) والأطوار التي مر بها مفهومه حتى انحصر في وسائل تحسين الكلام المعنوية واللفظية، وظاهرة الركام البديعي في تراثنا وموقف القزويني منها، وقضية تهميش البديع وقيمته في فن القول.
