لقد عنى الإسلام بالطفولة عناية خاصة، وجاء ديننا الحنيف منذ ما يزيد عن ألف وأربعمائة سنة ليقدر حقوق الطفل، كما أوصى رسونا الكريم بالضعفاء فقال: "ابغونى فى الضعفاء فإنما ترزقون وتنصرون بهم"، ونظراً لأهمية الطفولة كحجر أساسى لبناء شخصية الإنسان مستقبلاً، وبما أن لها دوراً كبيراً فى توافق الإنسان فى مرحلتى المراهقة والرشد؛ فقد أدرك علماء الصحة النفسية أهمية مشكلات الطفل وعلاجها فى سن مبكرة قبل أن تتفاقم، وتؤدى لانحرافات نفسية، وضعف فى الصحة النفسية فى مراحل العمر التالية، ومن هنا فإن المربين وخصوصاً الوالدين واجباً من أكثر الواجبات فى تربية أولادهم؛ ولذا رايت أن أقدم هذا الكتاب لكل أب وأم إسهاماً فى مساعدتهم على حل تلك المشكلات التى قد يتعرض لها أطفالهم، وأيضاً أقدم هذا الكتاب المختص والطالب على أمل أن يجد ما يسعى للبحث عنه، وإذا كنا نولى الطفولة العادية الاهتمام بمشكلاتهم، ومحاولة إيجاد حلول لها فبالأخرى كان لازماً علينا أن نهتم بالأطفال ذوى الاحتياجات الخاصة، ونتعرف على مشاكلهم ونحاول المساهمة فى حلها فرعايتهم والإهتمام بهم حق واجب علينا فتعاملنا ورعايتنا لهم قد تحسن من حالاتهم وتجعلهم يفجرون طاقاتهم وإبداعاتهم، وسوء الرعاية لهم قد يؤدى إلى تفاقم مشاكلهم وآثارها الجانبية ولذا قال النبى: "ابغونى فى الضعفاء فإنما تنصرون وترزقون بضعفائكم".
