لقد ظهرت مؤخراً أحداثٌ متلاحقةٌ، وتطوراتٌ سريعةٌ على المستوى العالمي والإسلامي والعربي، مما أدى إلى حتمية التغيير، والتطوير في معظم دول العالم، ولاسيما ما حدث في بعض الدول العربية فيما يسمى "بالربيع العربي" الذي أدى إلى حدوث قلق، وهلع، لدى بعض المجتمعات من هذا التغير خشية أن تؤدي هذه التحولات الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والثقافية إلى التأثير على قيمها ومبادئها وعاداتها وتقاليدها، وذلك بفعل الهالة الإعلامية التي تحدثها الدول المتقدمة، ولا سيما ما يتصل منها بحقوق الإنسان، واتخاذها مدخلاً لتحقيق أهدافها ومطامعها؛ لذا كان من الضروري الاهتمام بقضايا حقوق الإنسان في المجتمع السعودي عامة، وفي جامعة الجوف خاصة، لمساعدة خريجيها على مواجهة تلك التحديات، والتصدي لها من خلال ما لديها من وعي ثقافي بقضايا حقوق الإنسان، من منظور إسلامي، من خلال تنمية شخصية الطلاب بشكل متوازن، وتعريفهم بحقوقهم وواجباتهم.
هذا الكتاب تضمن مفردات مقرر (مبادئ حقوق الإنسان) (IC 105)، الذي اعتمدته جامعة الجوف ليدرّس لطلاب الجامعة من الجنسين، كما راعى المؤلفان التطورات المستحدثة والمستقبلية في هذا المجال، وتم تناول بعض الموضوعات ذات الطبيعة الجدلية في صورة مقارنة وموازنات.
تضمن محتوى الكتاب الحالي سبعة فصول دراسية، تناول الفصل الأول: المدخل إلى حقوق الإنسان، والفصل الثاني: استراتيجيات وبرامج تعليم حقوق الإنسان، والفصل الثالث: حق الحياة والمحافظة على سلامة البدن، والفصل الرابع: الحقوق الاجتماعية، والفصل الخامس: حق العدالة وحرية الرأي والتفكير، والفصل السادس: حق المساواة، والفصل السابع: حقوق الإنسان غير المسلم (حقوق أهل الذمة والمعاهدين والمستأمنين).
