وفي تلك اللحظات من تاريخ الوطن السوداني كله- والعالم من بعده- بدأ حوار اشترك فيه كل الذين صنعوا الثورة. وتوجهت في تلك اللحظات من تاريخ الوطن السوداني مجلة النهج لتنخرط في متابعة أحداث السودان وتمضي في الحوار الشاق الطويل، ما جعلها وهي تحاور المفكر السوداني والقائد الوطني محمد إبراهيم نقد، أن تطلق على اللقاء الذي أجرته معه على أنه- الحوار/ البرنامج- وما جعل دار الثقافة الجديدة التي صدرت منها الطبعة الأولى لهذا الكتاب تثبت من ثمة قضايا الديمقراطية في السودان المتغيرات والتحديات عنوانًا لهذا الكتاب ذلك بجانب الفصول الثلاثة الأخرى من الكتاب التي تناول فيها المؤلف قضايا هامة. لقد كان ذلك الحوار رائعًا، لم يترك شاردة أو واردة إلا وأحصاها، ومن خلل التفاصيل أبدى محمد إبراهيم نقد عزيمة جبارة وفكرًا عميقًا وقدرًا كبيرًا من الوطنية وإصرارًا على أن يستعيد السودان مكانته الحرة...
أما الباب الثاني من الكتاب فيحتوي على المساهمة التي صاغها الأستاذ محمد إبراهيم نقد بين يونيو و20 أغسطس 1991 وأصل المساهمة هو مجموعة أحاديث صحفية عميقة المحتوى شارك فيها باحث سوداني، ويعالج الكتاب في فصله أو قسمه الثالث آراء ناقدة لموقف الحزب الشيوعي السوداني حول حق القوميات في حكم ذاتي داخل أممها.
