يعد الشيخ أبو سعيد من رواد الصوفيين ومن كبرائهم في زمانه. ينتسب إلى المدرسة الملاماتية التي تتلخص رؤيتها في أن الأموال وكل ملك دينوي مادي تقاس قيمتها بما توفره من خدمات ورفاهية للناس. كما ركز أصحابها على ترويض الأنا ومعالجة تضخيم الذات بطريقة تشبه التحليل النفسي اليوم. وحاربوا الرياء الذي يعمل كالتبرير على حجب الحقيقة. كانوا على العموم يمتازون بقوة العاطفة الدينية وجهاد النفس العنيف ومحاربتها ومحاسبتها على كل ما فرط منها وما يحتمل أن يفرط.
عاصر أبو سعيد كلاً من الفردوسي صاحب ملحمة (الشاهنامة) أي كتاب الملوك وكذلك الفيلسوف إبن سينا وكان ثمة لقاءات وحوارات بين الإثنين.
وفي هذا الكتاب نطلع على طرائق الشيخ أبي سعيد في الحياة والعلاقات بين الناس وكيف كان يرى أن (الكل في الواحد والواحد في الكل) تعني أن التصوف ليس في العزلة والإعتكاف في صومعة أو برج عاجي بل هو في مخاطبة الناس وتعليمهم والتعلم منهم كي تغتني التجربة الصوفية وتثرى الأفكار الفلسفية عملاً بسنة النبي الكريم: إقتران العمل بالعلم. كما نطلع على رؤيته في التوحيد وعلاقته بهذه الأفكار التي يطرحها.
