يدرس الدكتور "محمد آيت حمو" علاقة الدين والسياسة في الفلسفة الفارابي ويركز الضوء على كتاب "الملة" الذي يهتم بالدين بكل أبعاده: بوحيه ومعتقداته وشرائعه. ففي هذا الكتاب ينطلق الفارابي في تفسيره لمحددات حدوث "الملة" في فرضية أساسية مضمونها أنه بعد اكتمال العلوم النظرية والعملية تأتي مرحلة وضع النواميس وهذا يحتاج إلى "صناعة وضع النواميس". يقول الفارابي: "الملة هي آراء وأفعال مقدرة مقيدة بشرائط يرسمها بجمع رئيسهم الأول، يلتمس أن ينال باستعمالهم لها غرضاً له فيهم أو بهم مجدداً. والجمع ربما كان عشيرة وربما كان مدينة أو صقعاً، وربما كان امة عظيمة، وربما كانت أمماً كثيرة. والرئيس الأول إن كان فاضلاً وكانت رئاسته فاضلة في الحقيقة، فإنه إنما يلتمس بما يرسم من ذلك أن ينال هو وكل من تحت رئاسته السعادة القصوى التي هي في الحقيقة سعادة، وتكون تلك الملة فاضلة".
يحاول هذا الكتاب دراسة إشكالية السياسة لدى هذا الفيلسوف ولكن بعين جديدة للإبانة عن طبيعة ومدى المساهمة الفارابية في حقل السياسة للحكم عليها بما لها وما عليها، وربط نظريته بالواقع العربي الإسلامي الراهن وعرض لمختلف الآراء من الباحثين الذين اشتغلوا على فلسفة الفارابي وإبراز جانب الخصوصية والأصالة فيها من خلال المناهج التي درستها ومنها، المنهج الجدلي، المنهج التكويني، والمنهج الإشكالي...
