أول ما يتبادر إلى الذهن هو السؤال: لماذا اختار محمد المستنير هذه المرة الكتابة «بالمقلوب»؟ وبقراءة متأنية للنص نجد أنه جاء معبراً عن اللفظ والمعنى من جانب وأكثر. وإذا ما تجاوزنا عتبة العنوان التي تفصح عن انتمائه إلى الأدب الساخر إلى لوحة الغلاف التي تصور سيارة أجرة وأوراق نقدية متطايرة، نجد أنها أعطت دلالات تتناسق مع رمزية العنوان وتحيل إلى طبيعة الشخصية الروائية البطلة "سائق التاكسي"، الذي سوف يقود النص برمته عن طريق الحوار الذي يجريه مع الزبائن ويأتي ذلك عبر مشاهدات ويوميات ومذكرات ظاهرها الهزل والسخرية، وباطنها النقد لمظاهر الزيف الاجتماعي والكشف عن الفروقات الثقافية والأهداف والاهتمامات بين بني البشر.
قدم الكاتب محمد المستنير لعمله هذا بمقدمة ومما جاء فيها: "... انتحلتُ شخصيّةً أخرى في هيئة شابٍّ مكافحٍ يكسبُ قوتَ يومه من سيّارة الأجرة التي اشتراها. ثرثار وفضوليٍّ مع الزبائن، لا يكاد يمرّ يومٌ إلاّ وله قصّةٌ مع أحدهم. أتجوّلُ في كلّ الطّرقات وبين كلّ الأحياء في العاصمةِ الرّياض؛ لذا قابلت طبقات وأنماطًا مختلفة من المجتمع؛ ولأنّني – عادةً – ما أكون على عجلٍ من أمري، كنت أرى الأشياء (بالمقلوب) وأحياناً أكون محقًّا.
تناقشُ «بالمقلُوب» بعض المظاهر الاجتماعية نقاشًا عفويًّا وبأسلوبٍ ساخرٍ. أحداث ووقائع من صنع المجتمع وخيال الكاتب وشيءٍ من الواقع. لكلّ زبونٍ قصّة، ولكلّ قصّة عنوان؛ لتجعل القارئ يستنتجُ ما بين السّطور".
