ابن الجَزَرِي، شمس الدين (751 - 833 هـ ، 1350 - 1429م).
محمد بن محمد بن محمد بن علي ابن يوسف أبو الخير شمس الدين العمري الدمشقي ثم الشيرازي الشافعي، المشهور بابن الجزري، شيخ الإقراء في زمانه. ولد ونشأ في دمشق وأنشأ فيها مدرسة سماها دار القرآن ونسبته إلى جزيرة ابن عمر. ورحل إلى مصر مرارًا، ودخل بلاد الروم وسافر مع تيمورلنك إلى بلاد ما وراء النهر، ثم رحل إلى شيراز، فولي قضاءها، ومات فيها.
من مؤلفاته: النشر في القراءت العشر؛ غاية النهاية في طبقات القراء؛ نهاية الدرايات في أسماء رجال القراءات؛ التمهيد في علم التجويد؛ فضائل القرآن؛ سلاح المؤمن، في الحديث.

قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: إن هذا القرآن أنزل على سبعة أحرف فاقرءوا ما تيسر منه، وقد انتسب إلى هذا العلم الشريف وقام بخدمته علماء أجلاء، كانت لهم وفيه ومعه قصص وعبر. و إن أجل كتاب ترجم لقراء القرآن وحملة كتاب الله هو كتاب خاتمة المحققين محمد بن محمد ابن الجزري (ت ستة 833 هـ)، واسم كتابه "غاية النهاية في طبقات القراء". وهو حاو على أكثر من (3955) ترجمة لإعلام القرآن وحفاظه.
وقد كان ابن الجزري يضمن تراجمه فوائد ولطائف عنهم، أحببت استلال المفيد منها، وإطلاع أهل القرآن عليه، علهم أن يستفيدوا ويفيدوا، فإن قراءة تراجم العلماء تشحذ الهمم وتنمي المواهب وتطلع على تجارب القوم، ومما يجدر التنبيه عليه أننا لم نقل كل ما نقلناه ونقلنا عبرته، بل وقفنا موقفاً نقدي من بعض ما استللناه، وبينا بالحجة والدليل سبيل الرد والرفض.
وقد بلغ ما قبسناه من تراجم (179) ترجمة، تحتوي على درر ونفائس، عز علي أن تبقى حبيسة هذا الكتاب الضخم، الذي لا يعرفه إلا القليل، والذب لا يحسن الاستفادة منه إلا النزر القليل.
