كانت الشمس مشرقة، والسماء صافية، ثم بدأت الشمس تغيب عن الغابة الصغيرة شيئاً فشيئاً، حتى حل الظلام على غير موعد. حطت العصفورة النشيطة فوق شجرة "الجميز" القريبة، وأخذت تسأل نفسها في حيرة: يا إلهي! ماذا حدث؟! لقد حل الظلام فجأة، ولم اجمع الحبوب لصغاري بعد، ماذا أفعل، وقد أقبل المساء سريعاً؟!، ثم لمحت الديك الأحمر يلبس عمامته مهرولاً نحو المسجد، فأسرعت خلفه وسألته: ماذا حدث في الغابة أيها الديك الطيب؟! فأجابها- وهو يسرع في مشيته- : لقد حدث كسوف للشمس، ويجب أن أنادي في الغابة: الصلاة.. الصلاة.. قالت العصفورة- في دهشة- : كسوف للشمس؟! ماذا تعني أيها الديك؟ أنا لا أفهم شيئاً!! قال الديك: إن ظاهرة الكسوف تتعلق بثلاثة اجرام، هي الشمس والقمر والأرض.
