الإرشاد النفسي الجماعي هو أسلوب إرشادي يُقدم الخدمات الإرشادية من خلال الجماعة الإرشادية وبها؛ باعتبار أن الجماعة نموذج واقعي للمجتمع وللحياة، وفي الجماعة يوجد الشعور بـ "نحن" والشعور بـ "هم" والشعور بالأنا، والتأكيد على أهمية الجماعة الإرشادية ليس فيه إهدار لقيمة الشخص بل هو تأكيد لأهمية الشخص والجماعة معاً، ففي داخل الجماعة يُشبع الشخص حاجاته الشخصية والاجتماعية معاً مثل: الحب والأمان والعطاء والانتماء... الخ وأثناء تفاعل الشخص مع أعضاء الجماعة يرى نفسه بطريقة أخرى وهو يفكر ويعمل معهم.
تواجد وتفاعل المسترشد مع المسترشدين داخل الجماعة الإرشادية هو إيمان بقيمتهم بالنسبة له، فوجوده معهم يُكَّون لديه مفهوماً جديداً عن نفسه مثل شعوره بأنه مقبول كما يكشف الدلالة الواقعية له وهو يحاول إشباع حاجاته، وفي هذه المحاولة يختبر المسترشد أفكاره واتجاهاته وأفعاله في تجربة معاشه مع الآخرين، كما أن إضافة تجارب الآخرين إلى تجاربه الذاتية أو مقارنتها بتجربته يساعده على مراجعة أفكاره ومعتقداته وقيمه واتجاهاته.
تسود داخل الجماعة الإرشادية النشطة لغة ومضامين خاصة تميزهم فتسود جملة "ما يَخصنا" كما يتم استخدام الضمير "نحن" بدلا من الضمير "هو أو هم" وهذا الضمير "نحن" يحتوي على مؤشرات إيجابية تستثير مشاعر خاصة وأفكار خاصة وقضايا خاصة وسلوكيات خاصة تميزهم كجماعة إرشادية.
تواجد المسترشد مع مسترشدين آخرين في شكل جماعة إرشادية يتيح الفرصة لممارسة المعالجات الاجتماعية Social Processes والمعالجات النفسيةProcesses Psycho والمعالجات الفلسفية Processes Philosophic وهذه المعالجات التي تتم للقضايا الاجتماعية والنفسية والفلسفية تعتبر مدخلات يتم التوصل إليها أثناء التفاعل الدينامي لأعضاء الجماعة الإرشادية بمساعدة المرشد النفسي وتكون مخرجاتها تغيير أفكار ومشاعر وسلوكيات الجماعة الإرشادية أو تعديلها أو تحسينها.
