هذا الكتاب جاء ليحقق نوعاً من التوازن بين المنظورين التربوي والنفسي فيما يتعلق بقضايا إعداد المعلم ومكانته وأهم أدواره في كل من التربية العامة والتربية الخاصة والإرشاد النفسي، حيث تناول الجزء الأول من الكتاب الإطار الاجتماعي والتربوي واحتوى على ثلاث قضايا هي، مهنة التعليم بين المهن الأخرى، وإعداد المعلم وتدريبه أثناء الخدمة، وعوامل التحاق الطلاب ببرامج إعداد المعلم والصعوبات التي تواجههم، بينما تضمن الجزء الثاني المنظور النفسي، واحتوى على ثلاث قضايا هي: معلم التربية الخاصة، وأدوار المعلم في عملية الإرشاد النفسي، ووجود المعلم في مدارس البنات بين القبول والرفض، وهكذا يتناول الكتاب مجموعة من القضايا التربوية والنفسية المتعلقة بالمعلم على مستوى النظرية والتطبيق، وبذلك يأمل المؤلفان من خلال هذا الطرح تحقيق قدر من التلبية لاحتياجات واهتمامات الباحثين والممارسين لمهنة التدريس في المنطقة العربية.
