"خرائط المدن الغاوية" هي العمل الروائي الثالث للكاتب والصحافي السعودي مقبول موسى بعد "فتنة جده"، "وسنوات الحب والخطيئة"، ولكن هذه المرَة يصوغ العلوي حكايته في خطاب روائي، بسيط/ يتخذ فيه راوياً واحداً هو (نايف) الذي يروي بصيغة المتكلم، ولعله يقول تجربة الكاتب نفسه، وينطلق في السرد من نقطة معينة هي وجود البطل في المملكة العربية السعودية وقد بدا شغوفاُ بقراءة قصص وروايات عن رحالة زارو الشرق وأعجبوا بحضارته، هذه الحكايات جعلت الراوي يحلق في عوالم الماضي والحاضر معاً فينتقل ضمن لعبة سردية إلى رواية أحداث ووقائع عاشها أو ربما تخيلها وصاغها في قالب روائي جميل نتعرف من خلاله على حضارات لا تزال تشهد أثارها على وجود أمم وممالك ومدن هي جزء من تاريخنا العربي والإسلامي.
في ثنايا الرواية يقول الراوي: "لن أستطيع القول بأن فصول هذه القصة بدأت تنسج خيوطها الأولى من صفحات كتب سبق لي قراءتها؟ هل كانت مجرد كتب؟ أم أنها كلمات من النوع الذي يحفر ندوباً غائرة في العقل وتتصلب كالصخور في مكامن الذاكرة والوجدان؟ قد يكون وربما أن قصتي قد بدأت قبل ذلك بوقت طويل. كل ما أعرفه هو أنني كنت مهووساً بتلك الكتب التي تتحدث عن المدن، والناس، والأحلام والطموحات التي تحركها تلك النداءات الغامضة والمبهمة لرجال ونساء سافروا وانتقلوا من مكان لمكان".
بهذا الخطاب الروائي عرف مقبول موسى العلوي كيف يحافظ على التوازن بين المادة التاريخية وإعادة تصنيعها روائياً، فأضاف إلى المكتبة الروائية العربية كتاباً جديداً يستحق القراءة.
