سعد محمد رحيم (مواليد 1957 - توفي في 9 أبريل 2018) كان كاتب ومؤلف قصص عراقي، عمل في التدريس والصحافة، ولقد صدرت لهُ ستة مجموعات قصصية، وعدة كتب فكرية ونقدية، كما أصدر ثلاث روايات: هي رواية "غسق الكراكي" التي فازت بجائزة الإبداع الروائي العراقي سنة 2000، ورواية "ترنيمة امرأة، شفق البحر"، ورواية "مقتل بائع الكتب" التي وصلت إلى القائمة القصيرة لجائزة البوكر العربية 2017، ورواية "فسحة للجنون" كما صدرت له عدة كتب ودراسات منها :استعادة ماركس" و"المثقف الذي يدس أنفه"، وصدرت روايتين له بعد رحيله هما "لما تحطمت الجرة" ورواية "القطار إلى منزل هانا".
كما حصل على جائزة "كتارا" للرواية العربية لعام 2016 عن روايتهِ غير المنشورة "ظلال جسد.. ضفاف الرغبة".

يحاول هذا الكتاب فحص موقع الهوية في الترسيمة المعرفية - السياسية الآنية، وهو موقع يكاد يحتل المركز من تلك الترسيمة في إهتمامات المعاصرين من المفكرين والمثقفين.
وعلينا أن نعي أن إتخاذ الموقع المركزي لموضوعة ما، في زمن ما، داخل الحقل المعرفي تفرضه مقتضيات السياسة والمصالح والمصراعات القائمة أكثر مما تفرضه الضرورات المجردة للمعرفة، كما أن التعاطي مع تلك الموضوعية معرفياً يمكن أن يكون، في إطار أجندات معينة، إستراتيجية سياسية في نهاية الأمر، لها آثارها في حقل المعرفة، وفي حياة المجتمع ومستقبل البلاد، على حد سواء.
وبذا يستدعي مفهوم موقع الهوية، في سياقنا النظري وأفق فهمنا، الكلام عن الممرات والتخوم المشتركة ومناطق التفاعل، ليحيلنا إلى توجه هومي بابا (مثلما لخصه ثائر ديب) لإستكشاف "الموقع الثقافي الهجين والبيئي، مدافعاً (بابا) عن موقع نظري يفلت من ثنائيات الشرق والغرب، والذات والآخر، والسيد والعبد، والداخل والخارج، موقع يتغلب على الأسس التقنية ويكشف عن فضاء من الترجمة لا تكون فيه الهويات منسوبة إلى سمات ثقافية متعينة مسبقاً وغير قابلة للإختزال وقائمة خارج التاريخ".
