يعرض هذا الكتاب ظاهرة التأويل النحوي من منظور دلالي، وكيف عالجها القدماء والمحدثون من نحاة ومفسرين، وعلماء اللغة بعامة، فقد التجأ هؤلاء الأعلام إلى تأويل النص القرآني.
هذه البنية النصية المعجزة التي استوت عندها الأقدام في العجز، وقد يكون الإلتجاء إلى التأويل أمراً لا مندوحة عنه، نظراً لكون القرآن الكريم محمّلاً بالحقيقة والمجاز، شريطة المحافظة على قوانين اللغة وضوابطها حتى يتفق معناه مع ما أثبته العقل، فلا تقوم هذه الظاهرة على الإفتراض والتمحّل والتخيل، فتقع فيما أسمي التأويل العبثي.
وإذا كان المعنى هو جوهر البحث الدلالي لمحه علماء العربية قديماً، فقد أيقنت أن بين التأويل وعلم الدلالة وشيجة متينة، وكنت قد اغترفت مادة البحث من طوايا كتب التفسير والإعراب، والنحو والقراءات، وحروف المعاني، وغيرها من الأسفار.
وقد تناولت ظاهرة الحذف، فبين لي أن فهم بعض الآي الكريمة متوقف على هذه المحاذيف، كما مثلت الزيادة لوناً من ألوان التأويل، وإن أنكر بعضها وجودها، كما عالجت مظاهر أخرى التأويل ضرب التضمن والإعراب، ودلالة العطف والإستئناف، وبنية اللفظ من حيث الدلالة على الزمن.
وكذا الحمل على المعنى والحمل على الكتابة، ووقفت الدراسة إزاء المقامات الخاصة التي ورد فيها التأويل مع إختيار الأليق بالمقام، والمناسب للغرض القرآني، وما يومض به السياق مع بيان ما قد يظهر من أنماط تركيبية متشابهة.
