- دكتوراه في النقد الحديث "المسرح" عام 1983م.
- يعمل حالياً أستاذ النقد الأدبي الحديث -قسم اللغة العربية -جامعة البحرين.
أنشطة ثقافية وفكرية: - عضو أسرة الأدباء والكتّاب، ورئيس مجلس إدارتها في عدة دورات.
- عضو مسرح أوال، ومدير الفرقة من 74-1976م.
- رئيس تحرير مجلة "كلمات" 1973م، وقد أسهم في تأسيسها.
- شارك في تأسيس جمعيات وفرق مسرحية منها: تنمية الطفولة، وفرقة مسرح الصواري.
وجمعية التراث الشعبي.
- كتب سلسلة مقالات في الصحافة المحلية حول النقد المسرحي، والثقافة، والقصة.
- أعد النظام الأساسي لجوائز الدولة التقديرية والتشجيعية والوطنية عام 1999م.
- أسهم في عدد كبير من الندوات والمؤتمرات الأدبية والمسرحية والثقافية على مستوى دول مجلس التعاون في الخليج العربي.
- رئيس اللجنة الدائمة للفرق المسرحية الأهلية في دول مجلس التعاون.
عضويات في مجالس وهيئات: - يتمتع بعضوية العديد من المجالس والهيئات منها: الهيئة الاستشارية لمعهد الموسيقى العربية -مجلس أمناء جائزة عبد العزيز سعود البابطين -الهيئة الاستشارية للهيئة العربية للمسرح -الهيئة الاستشارية لجهاز تلفزيون الخليج بالرياض..
ويعد خبيراً استراتيجياً في مجال إعداد المشروعات الثقافية والتنموية.
- تم اختياره محكماً في أربعين لجنة تحكيم بمختلف الفعاليات الثقافية في كثير من الدول العربية..
كما شارك في العديد من المهرجانات المسرحية العربية والدولية.
المؤلفات: - ألف سبعة عشر كتاباً عن القصة القصيرة، والتجربة المسرحية، ودراسات نقدية في الرواية والمسرح..
وله خمسة نصوص مسرحية منشورة، بالإضافة إلى ستة نصوص مسرحية تم إخراجها.

لم يأتِ التقابل الحيوي الحادث بين المسرح والوعي القومي في البدايات المسرحية عبثاً، فهناك "حساسية تاريخية" مشتركة بينهما.
فمن الثابت - إلى حد كبير - أن للمسرح تاريخية خاصة بمنهجه، أدواته، وطريقة بحثه في السير الشخصية، "تاريخية" كانت أم واقعية، فهو مشدود دوماً إلى الحكم بتجارب الماضي.
إنه يعيد إنتاج هذا الماضي دون كلل، أو دون إنتهاء، كما هو واضح من تاريخ المسرح العالمي منذ مراحله الكلاسيكية وحتى العصر الحديث، وفي المقابل فإنّ الوعي القومي لا يتأسس له حضور إلا بإعادة إنتاج التاريخ العربي والإسلامي، وإتاحة التمركز لنصوصه وأحداثه، والمحاولة الدائمة للحكم بتجاربه على الحاضر، مما يؤدي إلى بناء تعارضات دقيقة وخطيرة في الوعي، كشفت عنها الدراسة.
