يقول المؤلف في مقدمة كتابه هذا أن ما دفعه إلي أختيار "شعر أبي إسحاق الصابئ" في دراسته هذه سببين, الأول أن له ديواناً ضائعاً لم يتناوله أحد في قبل أو يقوم بتحقيقه, رغم أن الكثير أهتموا بشعره وأثنوا علي موهبته الشعرية أما السبب الثاني فهو يتمثل في ظاهرة شعر الكتاب نفسها, حيث يري أن جمع شعر الصابئ في هذا البحث سيتيح فرصة للكشف عن مدي تطابق مثل هذه الأراء العامة علي شعره وأيضاً للوقوف علي مدي الفرق بين الصابئ الكاتب وبين الصابئ الشاعر بأحاسيه الخاصة.
إن تراثنا الأدبي الغني والمتنوع والزاخر بالأفكار والأشكال- والذي أولاه أسلافنا عناية فائقة وحمّلوه عصارة فكرهم وسطروا فيه تجاربهم الثرية وإبداعاتهم المدهشة على مر العصور-جدير بالاهتمام والدراسة بعد أن تداوله الأجداد والآباء. بحرص بالغ حتى وصل إلينا على شكل مخطوطات لم نطّلع إلاى على النزر اليسير منها.. وهدف هذه السلسلة إتاحة الفرصة للأجيال الجديدة من العرب للاطلاع على جهود أسلافهم... وقد حرصنا على أن تكون المخطوطات مما لم يسبق نشره.
