لقد كان لشغف الدكتور جبرائيل سليمان جبور بحياة البدو والبادية ولمحاذاة قريته لمضاربهم أثر كبير في تجسيد صورة عايشها، وذلك من خلال هذا الكتاب الذي يتوسع فيه في درس البادية، وفي وضع حياة البدو عامة، وحياة بدو سوريا وقبيلة صليب بنوع خاص في هذه الدراسة التي بناها على اختباره الخاص مضافاً إليها ما استفاده من العلماء الباحثين والروّاد مما تبين له صحفها. وفي سبيل هذه الدراسة، ولتكون أكثر موضوعية لم يجد الباحث بدّاً من التردد إلى مضارب البدو في أطراف سوريا والأردن منتقلاً في المنطقة الصحراوية في الاحساء على الخليج العربي، كما أنه ولهذه الغاية، قام عام 1960 بالاطلاع وفي مكتبة السجلات العامة في إنكلترا على الوثائق التي كان يبعث بها القناصل الإنكليز في بغداد وحلب ودمشق.
