إن تصحيح العقائد هو من أهم العلوم, وبه أرسل الأنبياء والمرسلون, وهو وظيفة ورثة الأنبياء, الذين منّ الله عليهم بشرف حمل العلم بعدهم, فساروا على دربهم وطريقهم بإحسان يهتدون بهديهم ويستنون بسنتهم, فهدى الله بهم (ولكل قوم هادٍ) وإن من أهم الواجبات على من يسير بدرب الأنبياء الذبّ عن الدين الحنيف وعن عقيدته الصافية, وذلك بالرد على الشبهات الواردة من قبل أهل الأهواء والبدع, ولم يخل وقت من الأوقات إلا وفيه من يدافع عن هذا الدين ويرد شبهات المغرضين. ومن هؤلاء الأعلام الذين بذلوا وسعهم في التصدي لأهل الأهواء مؤلف هذا الكتاب, إذ حمل هذا العالم لواء السنة والدفاع عنها, في عصر طغى فيه الفساد الاعتقادي, وخصوصاً في بلاد الحجاز وتحت ظل الدولة العثمانية التي كانت مأوى الصوفية في عصرها الأخير. حيث قام المؤلف في هذا الوضع بالرد على بعض الوافدين الهنود, عندما عرض الهندي على العلامة خوقير بعض الشبهات في التوسل والاستغاثة من الأحاديث الموضوعة والحكايات المنكرة المصنوعة, وما أشبه ذلك من منامات وقصص لا تنفق عند من له إلمام بعقيدة أهل السنة والجماعة, ومن له علم صحيح. ويعتبر هذا الكتاب المكي الوحيد في تلك الفترة التي رد على شبهات الخرافيين المستغيثين بغير الله تعالى.
