تهذيب تاريخ الدول الإسلامية بالجداول المرضية كتاب هو بمثابة تاريخ مختصر يكون كالفهرست لتواريخ الدول الإسلامية يستحضر به الناظر فيه ما في تلك التواريخ إجمالاً، ثم إذا أراد الوقوف على حقيقة الأمر وتفاصيل تلك الأخبار يكشف عما أراده من التواريخ، ويكون الوقوف على هذه الفهرست سبباً مرغباً للبحث عما أجمل فيه حتى يقف الناظر على تفصيله من التواريخ المبسوطة. وقد عمد المؤلف وعند ذكره لبعض الدول التي لم تشتهر عند كثير من الناس عمد إلى ذكر مبدأ تلك الدولة وكيفية منشئها وسبب حدوثها ليكون ذلك أيضاً مرغباً للناظر في البحث عن تفصيل ما يتعلق بذلك. جاعلاً مبدأ التاريخ من زمن النبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم. وأما ما كان قبل زمن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فيكفي ما هو مذكور في التواريخ ولا يحتاج إلى هذا الفهرست، جاعلاً لكل دولة باباً وسماه "تاريخ الدول الإسلامية بالجداول المرضية".
