تحمل الرواية العربية المعاصرة أبعادا فنية متعددة وقيما فكرية يختلط فيها تراث الأنا ومستجلبات الآخر، ويعد المكان الذى تدور فيه أحداق الرواية من أهم مفردات القص الحديث، حيث يعنى الروائى برسم ابعاده رسما محدداً تحديداً فنيا رائعا، ويعد "إبراهيم اصلان" من أهم الروائيين العرب المعاصرين الذين صوروا هذه القسمات المكانية بدقة الفنان المتمكن من أداوت ذلك الفن.
وقد عنيت هذه الدراسة التحليلية لأبعاد المكان فى "عصافير النيل" بتتبع خطوط أبعاد المكان كما رسمها "أصلان" فجاءت فى تسعة مباحث- بعد المدخل-،
حيث درست بنية الرواية ووظائفها السردية ودور التداخل بين الزمان والمكان بوصفة انعكاسا للمنظور الروائى مستعيان بوصف فنى للمكان، ثم رصدت شيوع الموت فى المكان بل موت المكان ذاته ثم اسطرته بوصفة البطل الحقيقة للرواية، حتى فى حال الاسترجاع لا يعنى الكاتب باسترجاع الزمن الماضى بقدر عنايته باسترجاع المكان الغائب، ثم ختمت الدراسة بوصف حالة لغة "أصلان" وما تفجر عنها من طاقات.
