رأيت أن أتناول رسالة ابن المنجم في الموسيقى بالشرح والتفسير للكشف عن تفاصيل نظرية الموصلى الموسيقية. ويتوالى شرح فقرات الرسالة بنفس ترتيب هذه الفقرات في المتن، فتحمل كل فقرة وشرحها رقما واحدا في كل من المتن والشرح.
ولما كانت تسمية النغم في نظرية إسحاق الموصلى وبسط مجاريها كما أثبتها ابن المنجم في رسالته تقوم أساسا على استعمال العرب القدامي لآلة العود ، فقد اوضحت مواقع النغم التى يفصلها ابن المنجم بتاعا بأشكال بيانية لأوتار العود القديم وهى أربعة في نظام يشبه نظام التدوين الجدولي Tablature. كما قمت بتدوين ما تحتوى عليه الرسالة من أفكار موسيقية بالتدوين الموسيقى الحديث، وذلك حتى يمكن تصور مضمونها تصورا موسيقيا مسموعا من خلال هذا التدوين. المحقق يوسف شوقي
