يُعد متن ابن الحاجب في علم الصرف - المسمى بالشافية - من أفضل المتون في هذا العلم، وقد اهتم به العلماء فتناولوه بالشرح والتعليق، وقد احصيت هذه الشروح فوجدت أنها تفوق العشرة - بين شرح وتعليق، وأفضل هذه الشروح على ما أظن - هو شرح "رضي الدين الأستراباذي"، وشرح "الجار بردي"، وهذا الشرح الذي هو بين أيدينا وهو شرح نظام الملة والدين الحسن ابن محمد النيسابوري.
وهو الشرح الأخير ربما وجدت فيه مميزات جعلته يحوز قصب السبق والتفضيل على غيره من الشروح في ميادين الدراسة في الحوزات العلمية - في النجف وقمَّ - وغيرها، وأهم هذه المميزات: 1-مزج هذا الشرح بالمتن، 2-الإختصار الذي اشتمل عليه، 3-إهتمامه ببيان المعاني اللغوية، وبهذا يريح الطالب من عناء البحث والتنقيب في الكتب اللغوية، بالإضافة إلى بيان المعاني الشعرية، ومع هذه الخصال التي فضلته على غيره بقي في خانة النسيان فلم يحظ بالإهتمام من قبل المهتمين بالإخراج والتحقيق للكتب العلمية.
لهذا عزم المحقق على تدوين التوضيحات لعبارات ومباحث تحتاج إلى توضيح، بالإضافة إلى بيان نسبة الأشعار لقائليها وإرجاع الآيات لسورها، ولقد اعتمد في التوضيح على شرحي الرضي والجار بردي وفي تصحيح المتن والساقط منه، وذلك في ناحيتين؛ بيان لفظ الكلمة وتشكيلها وتذكيرها وتأنيثها، وأسماء الإشارات والموصولات، في بيان أنها من المتن أو الشرح، ورتب الكلمات بواسطة عناوين وضعها لرؤوس المطالب، وقدم الشرح بترجمتين مختصرتين - للمصنف والشارح.
