تناول الكتاب مواضيع أساسية وأخرى تطبيقية ليكون في متناول شرائح عديدة من القراء لخدمة المثقف بوجه عام والمتخصص بوجه خاص من المهندسين وطلبة الدراسات الجامعية؛ يتكون هذا الكتاب من عشرة فصول يتناول الفصل الأول الإحصاء الوصفي وأهميته في الهندسة، أما في الفصل الثاني فهو مقدمة للمجموعات وأنواع الإحتمالات المختلفة، يوضح الفصل الثالث مفهوم المتغيرات العشوائية المنفصلة والتوزيعات الإحتمالية المرتبطة بها أما الفصل الرابع فهو يختص بالمتغيرات العشوائية المتصلة وتوزيعاتها الإحتمالية.
كما يتناول الفصل الخامس التوزيعات الإحتمالية المشتركة لأكثر من متغير، موضوع الفصل السادس هو يختص بإختبار الفرضيات الإحصائية وكيفية صياغتها وأنواع الإختبارات المتعددة لهذه الفرضيات، يوضح الفصل الثامن مفهوم الإرتباط والإنحدار الخطي لمتغيرين فأكثر وحساب معامل التحديد.
يتناول الفصل التاسع كيفية تصميم التجارب وتحليلات التباين المختلفة، أما الفصل العاشر والأخير لهذا الكتاب فهو يدرس موضوع التحكم الإحصائي ومراقبة الجودة، كما يحتوي الكتاب أيضاً على ملاحق لجداول التوزيعات الأساسية وكذلك على بعض الأشكال للمنحنيات الهامة.
