يقدم اتحاد الناشرين العرب هذا الفهرس بهدف إعطاء صورة جلية عن أحداث ما أنتجه الناشرون العرب، وعن اتجاهاتهم في النشر عددياً ونوعياً وفيزيقياً، وهذا لا يعني أن هذا العمل هو بمثابة قائمة تقليدية بالكتب، بل هو ببليوغرافية كاملة تعطي صورة واضحة الحدود والمعالم والأبعاد لكل كتاب أدرج فيها، توفر على إعدادها فريق متكامل من المتخصصين في علم الكتب. وقد رتب الجسم الرئيسي لهذا العمل ترتيباً هجائياً بأسماء الناشرين، وتحت كل ناشر وضعت الكتب الخاصة به مرتبة هجائياً بأسماء مؤلفيها. وقد زود هذا العمل بكشاف هجائي بأسماء المؤلفين الذين وردت لهم كتب في الجسم الرئيسي، وكشاف آخر بعناوين الكتب الواردة في الجسم الرئيسي، وكشاف ثالث بموضوعات الكتب. إن اتحاد الناشرين العرب يأمل أن ينتفع بهذا العمل من جانب المؤسسات والمكتبات والأفراد الذين يسعون إلى اقتناء أحدث الإصدارات العربية التي سعى هذا العمل إلى التعريف بها وتسليط الضوء عليها.
