لقد قمت بكتابة ذكرياتي خلال ما يقارب القرن من الزمن، بدءاً من العام 1924 حتى العام 2000، وأحداث ذكرياتي بدأت في منطقةٍ نائيةٍ شمال غرب العراق هي إحدى قرى تلعفر، وضمن عائلة من المزارعين، وتمتد ذكرياتي خلال نشأتي ثمّ دراستي في بغداد في واحدةٍ من أكثر الحقب السياسيّة ثراءً في تاريخ العراق الحديث، ألا وهي فترة إستلام عبد الكريم قاسم الحكم وتكليفه المهندسين من أمثالي ببناء السدود المائية والمشاريع الكبيرة في العراق، ولعلّ أهم ما يميّز ذكرياتي هو أني كنت شاهداً على أحداث تحوّل العراق من تلك الفترة التاريخية التقدّميّة والمشرقة إلى فترة لاحقة جلبت الويلات على العراق بسبب وصول القوميَّين والبعثيين إلى الحكم.
أروى قصّة حياتي خلال قرن من الزمن مع وصف الأحداث السياسيّة المحيطة بي ولداً يافعاً، ثم شاباً مهندساً، وأخيراً مهاجراً بسبب وصول البعثيين إلى الحكم وقد قمت بكتابة ذكرياتي بدلاً من مذكراتي لعدم وجود مستمسكاتٍ نصيّة للإعتماد عليها بسبب مرور عقود طويلةٍ على حدوثها، وذلك ابتداءً من طفولتي المعذبة لأن والداتي كانت غريبةً عن العائلة، أرمنية مهاجرة أصبحت مسلمة لاحقاً ضمن عائلةٍ من المزارعين عين التركمان، وكذلك كانت طفولتي صعبة لعدم إستقرار والدي في الأعمال الزراعيّة ضمن مزرعته في إحدى قرى تلعفر...
وأروي قصة حياتي منذ البدايات، حيث ذهبت إلى الكتّاب في مدرسة ملا دالون دون أن يعرف والدي، وكلّ ذلك بمساعدة وتصميم من والدتي على أن يصبح ابنها متعلماً ومقتدراً، وختمت القرآن الكريم، وانتقلت إلى المدرسة الإبتدائية في الصف الأول وكنت الأكثر تفوقاً بين الطلاّب، فانتقلت إلى الصف الثاني في يوم واحدٍ، ثم إلى الصف الثالث خلال أسبوع، حتّى إن أخي يونس جدّو، الذي كان في الصف السادس الإبتدائي، حاول الإعتراض لدى مدير المدرسة بسبب صعوبة الصف الثالث على أخيه حسن، لكن المدير أجابه بالتالي: "إن أخاك حسن شاطر ما ينخاف عليه...".
