لا نعرف متى شرح عصام الدين التلخيص في كتابه الأطول لأنه لم يذكر ذلك أحد ممن ترجموا له، ولكني أستطيع أن أقول: إنه شرحه بعد أن شرحه بعد أن قرأ كثيرًا من الشروح السابقة عليه للتلخيص وبخاصة كتاب المطول، والمختصر لسعد الدين التفتازانى، وشرح الشريف الجرجانى للمفتاح وتعليقاته على المطول وقرأ مفتاح العلوم للسكاكي، وغير ذلك الكثير، فأراد أن يدلي بدلوه في شرح التلخيص، ويضيف ما فتح الله به عليه إلى شروح السابقين كما كان من أهدافه، أن يجعله الله عونًا للطلبة في فهم دقائق كتابه، كما أنه يرجو أن يكون زخرًا له يوم لا ينفع مال ولا بنون.
