إن هذا الكتاب الذي يقدمه الكاتب للقراء هو كتاب: "فقه اللغة وسرُّ العربية" لعَلَم من أعلام العربية والأدب أبي منصور عبد الملك بن محمد بن إسماعيل الثعالبي النيسابوري المتوفى سنة (429هـ).
وموضوع الشطر الأول من الكتاب "فقه اللغة": حفظ الدلالات اللغوية للألفاظ العربية، وذكر المترادفات المختلفة للمعنى الواحد.
أما موضوع الشطر الثاني من الكتاب: "سرُّ العربية" فهو - كما قال المؤلف: مجاري كلام العرب وسنتها، والإستشهاد بالقرآن الكريم على أكثرها.
والكتاب جليل المقدر، عظيم الفائدة بقسميه "فقه اللغة" و "سرُّ العربية"، وقد نصَّ المؤلف في مقدمته أنهما كتاب واحد، لا كما زعم بعض الناشرين أنهما كتابان مستقلان.
وقد اعتمد فيه مؤلفه الثعالبي على الوِجادة، لا على الرواية الشفهية في معظم فصول الكتاب، والوجادة طريقة مستعملة في علمي الحديث والأدب، وهي أن يجد التلميذ كتاباً محظوظاً يعلم أنه بخط أستاذه، فيروي منه، وهي مقبولة في علم الحديث، غن كانت مقترنة بالإذن والرواية كما هو معلوم في مكانه.
