وقد نهجنا في أداء التنقيح أن تقوم بتحديث نصوص القوانين واللوائح الجديدة في متون الكتاب ومن أهمها قانون المرافعات المدنية والتجارية رقم 13 لسنة 1968 وقانون الإثبات رقم 25 لسنة 1968 المعدلين بالقانونين رقم 23 لسنة 1992 ورقم 18 لسنة 1999 وقانون التأمين رقم 91 لسنة 1995 وقانون التجارة البحرية رقم 8 لسنة 1990 وقانون التجارة رقم 17 لسنة 1999 وقانون الأحوال الشخصية رقم 1 لسنة 2000 المعدل بالقانون رقم 91 لسنة 2000 وقانون حماية الملكية الفكرية رقم 82 لسنة 2002 وقانون الجمعيات والمؤسسات الأهلية رقم 84 لسنة 2002 وغير ذلك من القوانين العديدة التي ألفت أو عدلت من أحكام ونصوص القوانين التي كانت سارية وقت صدور الطبعة الأولى لكتاب الوسيط.
أما بالنسبة لأحكام النقض والمحكمة الدستورية التي صدرت حتى سنة 2002 وما جد من آراء في الفقه فقد استخدمنا الترقيم اللاتيني لكل ما أضفناه تمييزًا له عن الهوامش الأصلية التي كتبها المرحوم الدكتور عبد الرزاق السنهوري.
