الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا الآن وهو "كتاب النكاح" الذي يعد أحد الكتب القيمة والرائعة والفريدة من "إحياء علوم الدين" وموضوع الزواج الذي يمثل محور الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا قد صنف فيه الناس كتبًا كثيرة ولكن كتاب الغزالي يتميز عن كتاباتهم بخمسة أمور ذكرها على الوجه الآتي: حل ما عقدوه وكشف ما أجملوه، ترتيب ما بددوه ونظم ما فرقوه، إيجاز ما طولوه وضبط ما قرروه، حذف ما كرروه وإثبات ما حرروه، تحقيق أمور غامضة اعتاصت على الأفهام لم يتعرض لها في الكتب أصلًا إذ الكل وإن تواردوا لأمر على منهج واحد فلا مستنكر أن ينفرد كل واحد من السالكين بالتنبيه لأمر يخصه ويغفل عنه رفقؤه أو لا يغفل عن التنبيه ولكن يسهو عن إيراده في الكتب أو لا يسهو ولكن يصرفه عن كشف الغطاء عنه صارف.
