حاول بيير بورديو الإجابة عن هذه الأسئلة في كلّ أعماله الأكاديمية، التي امتدّت على فترة تتجاوز (40) سنة، وللقيام بذلك، بنى نظريّة سوسيولوجية أصيلة اعترف الكثير من علماء الإجتماع المعاصرين بأنّها النظرية التي سيطرت على الحقل السوسيولوجي لفترة ما بعد الحربي العالمية الثانية.
في هذا الكتاب، حاول المؤلف تقريب هذه النظرية من القارئ العربي بتقديم عرض بسيط وواضح لبنيتها المفاهيميّة المكوّنة من "الهابتوس"، و"الحقل"، و"العنف الرمزي"، و"رأس المال"، "والإنعكاسية"، وغيرها، وذلك بالرجوع الدائم إلى المشكلات التي تكشف عنها، والحلول التيق تقدّمها لها، متجنّباً المعالجة التبسيطية والإختزاليّة للفكر السوسيولوجي البورديوي، ومحاولاً تسليط الضوء على العلاقات القائمة بين المفاهيم التي تشكّله، وكذا توضيح ديناميكيّتها الشاملة وهي تشتغل في نماذج أساسيّة من بحوثٍ بورديو الميدانية.
لقد سعى المؤلف، في كتابه، إلى تقديم العمل السوسيولوجي لبورديو من خارج الألعاب اللغوية المعقّدة لدائرته السوسيولوجية وشرّاحه، ومن ثمَّ ترجمته إلى لغة واضحة وبسيطة.
