مما لا شك فيه أنّ الصراع، من الناحية الفلسفية هو الظاهرة الأكثر شمولية في الوجود، ويمكن القول إنه القانون الناظم لمختلف أشكال الحياة في الطبيعة وفي المجتمعات البشرية، كما إنه ينظّمِ سلوك الفرد ونوازعه التي تحدد خياراته على كافة الأصعدة.
ولما كانت مجتمعاتنا مليئة بالتناقضات وبأسباب النزاعات على إختلاف أنواعها، وبما أننا جميعاً شهودٌ على الكثير من الصراعات ذات الطبيعة المتنوعة في داخل مجتمعاتنا ومع مجتمعات أخرى، ولما كنّا قد شهدنا على مدى عقود من حياتنا صراعات ونزاعات عنيفة ودموية في داخل الدولة الواحدة وبين مختلف الدول العربية، وبين الدول العربية وبين العدو الصهيوني.
فإنّ هذا كله دفعني للبحث عن درجة إهتمامنا بهذا العلم الحديث نسبياً، وبمدى إطلاع مسؤولينا وأصحاب القرار على النظريات المختلفة الشائعة في علم الصراع، وعلى مختلف الأساليب والوسائل التي يمكن أو يجب إتباعها للتخفيف من حدّة النزاعات القائمة أو محاولة حلّها قبل أنْ تنفجرَ في داخل مجتمعاتنا، مثلما حدث في السنوات الأخيرة تحت ظاهرة ما بات يُعرف "بالربيع العربي".
