الأمير العلامة أبو سعيد نشوان بن سعيد بن نشوان الحميري المتوفى سنة 573هـ كان معتزلياً، فقهياً، فاضلاً، عارفاً باللغة والنحو، والتاريخ وسائر فنون الأدب، فصيحاً بليغاً، شاعراً مجيداً، له شهرة عالمية شرقاً وغرباً.
ومن آثار هذا الامام الفذ: هذه المقامة البديعة المكنية برسالة (الحور العين، عن كتب العلم الشرائف، دون النساء العفائف) كتبها مؤلفها المبدع، ليرتاض بها الناشئ الصغير في كل باب من أبواب البيان، ويزداد بها علم العالم النحر يرفى كل ساحات العرفان، فأجاد وأفاد، على طريقته في نشر العلم في كل ناد وواد.
وكتب المقامات تكون في الغالب جارية في موضوعات أدبية، روائية خيالية، لا يتوخى فيها مؤلفاها بيان الواقع، في كل المواقع، بل مجرد بيان المعاني، بألفاظ جزلة المبانى، تزويداً للمتأدبين ببلغة، توصلهم إلى الاتساع في اللغة، لكن صاحبنا هذا قد انتهج في مقامته هذه المنهج الجد، في كل ما أورد، ناصحاً لحاكم نال ثناء المؤلف عليه، وحاز الرضى عليه، جائلاً فيها كل مجال للكلام، من لغة ونحو وصرف، وعروض وقافية، وأنباء عن الجاهلية وتأريخ للأديان والمذاهب والنحل، وفقه، وحديث وأمثال، على طريقة مبتكرة في تحبيب شتى البحوث للباحثين، بحيث لا يقدر مطالعها على أن يتخلى عن مطالعتها إلى أن يستنفد ما فيها، فيتزود في خطوات مطالعتها بكل معنى شريف وبحث طريف.
