نشوان بن سعيد الحميري، أبو سعيد، أو أبو الحسن، من نسل حسان ذي مراثد من ملوك حمير: قاض، علامة باللغة والادب.
من أهل بلدة \" حوث \" من بلاد حاشد، شمالي صنعاء.
قال القفطي: كان يفضل قومه اليمنيين على الحجازيين ويفاخر عدنان بقحطان وله في ذلك نقائض مع الاشراف القاسمية أولاد الامام القاسم ابن علي العياني.
وقال ياقوت (في معجم البلدان) ما مؤداه: استولى على عدة قلاع وحصون في جبل \" صبر \" المطل على قلعة تعز، حتى صار ملكا.
من كتبه \" شمس العلوم ودواء العرب من الكلوم - ط \" مجلدان منه، وهو في ثمانية، وطبعت منتخبات منه تتعلق بأخبار اليمن، ومنه نسخة كاملة في أربعة أسفار ينقصها السفر الاول، مصورة في معهد المخطوطات (الرقم 396 - 398 سعودية) و \" القصيدة الحميرية - ط \" وتسمى \" النشوانية \" نشرت مع شرحه لها، في مجلة الحكمة اليمانية بصنعاء، ثم على حدة، و \" كتاب القوافي - خ \" و \" الحور العين - ط \" مع شرحه له، و \" الفرائد والقلائد - خ \" رسالة، و \" خلاصة السيرة الجامعة لعجائب أخبار الملوك التبابعة - ط \" جزء صغير، و \" أحكام صنعاء وزبيد - خ \" الجزء الثاني منه، و \" التذكرة في أحكام الجواهر والاعراض - خ \" الجزء الاول منه، وهو في جزأين، و \" التبيان في تفسير القرآن - خ \" الجزء الرابع منه.

كتاب جم الفوائد ، غزير المنفعة ، مشهور في أيدي الناس منذ وضعه مؤلفه . وفي مكتبات العالم الكثير من نسخه . وقد طبع طبعات كثيرة . شرح به نشوان مقامة له ضمنها كل أبواب البيان ، وساحات العرفان . ووجه في أثنائها النصيحة لحاكم نال ثناءه وحاز رضاه . وأردف تلك المقامة البديعة بتفسير غريب ألفاظها ، وشرح معانيها ، جائلا فيها كل مجال للكلام ، من لغة ونحو وصرف ، وعروض وقافية ، وأنباء عن الجاهلية ومعتقداتها ، وتاريخ الأديان والمذاهب والنحل ، وفقه وحديث ، وأمثال وحكم ، على طريقة مبتكرة ، في تحبيب شتى البحوث للباحثين ، بحيث لا يقدر مطالعها على أن يتخلى عن مطالعتها إلى أن يستنفذ ما فيها هذا الكتاب مقامه فريد وضع ليرتاض منه الناشىء الصغير من كل ابواب البيان و من اجل نشر العلم في ابواب البيان
