"كيف أصبحت، كلمة حينما قالها لي لم أكن أعلم أن قلبي سوف يلقي حمولة ذكريات عمري وراءه، ويتعلق بتلك الكلمة البسيطة. ذلك الغامض الهادئ، المتواري خلف سكونه وأحلامه، ولم أكن أدري أن قلبي سوف يسعى نحوه سعي الظمآن، قد أدرك الماء ولا يفصله عنه إلا مسيرة سفر قلب لقلب. إن للقلوب شأناً آخر غير ما نتوهمه أو نعقله. ففي الوقت الذي يقوم به العقل بدرس الخطوات المستقبلية لإصدار حكم مناسب لحركة خفقان القلب باتجاه شخص ما. يكون القلب قد حسم أمره. إقبالاً أو أدباراً حتى قبل أن يبدأ العقل بالتفكير، فإن جاءت أحكام العقل ملائمة لهوى القلب فيها ونعمت، وإلا فستضرب ببراهين العقل وحكمته عرض الحائط".
