يُعتبر هذا الجزء الثاني والأخير من "حياة الفكر" لحنّة آرنت، بمثابة الوصية الفلسفية، بما أنها انتهت من تحريره قبل أيّام من وفاتها في ديسمبر 1975.
فبعد أن سبرت أغوار "العقل" في الجزء الأوّل، المترجم من لدننا (دار النديم، 2016)، قامت حنّه آرنت، في هذا الجزء الثاني، بتحليل مكامن "الإرادة" والرغبة محللة أنثروبولوجية الشذوذ الذي أبانه المصير التاريخي للحداثة، وذلك بالركون إلى مقاربة نقدية جديدة للتحكيم الفكري.
فقد انطلقت حنّه آرنت، في مبحثها هذا، بتحليل النظريات المرتبطة بالإرادة، بدءاً من الخيارات القديمة إلى نيتشه وهيدغر مروراً بفلاسفة الإغريق القدامى، والقديس بولس، وأوغسطينوس، وتوما الأكويني ودانز سكوطس، منكبة في نفس الوقت على سرّ هذا المرض العضال الذي أصاب العقل (اللوغوس)، حيث أمست العدمية تمثل أعظم تجسيم.
يمثل هذا النوع من الغوص والإبحار الفلسفي، أو بالأحرى الأركيولوجيا الفلسفية للشرّ أحسن وأجدى ربط مثالي للفلسفة الدائمة المتعلقة بالقضايا الدرامية للحداثة، مستخلصة بذلك العديد من النتائج المرعبة.
