لا شك أن الدراسات الإجتماعية تعتبر من ميادين المعرفة التي تثير الجدل والتفكير، وأنها من أكثر المواد حساسية لما يجري في المجالات الإجتماعية والسياسية والعسكرية من أحداث، وما يثور من مشكلات وتحديات عصرية.
لذا فهي مواد ومعارف نامية ومتطورة بتطور المجتمعات والبحوث والدراسات والأحداث، لذا فإن المختصين في مجال المواد الإجتماعية وخصوصاً الجغرافيا السياسية والعسكرية مهتمون دائماً بالسعي وراء كل جديد يمكن أن يزيد من فعالية تلك المواد، ولتحقيق الأهداف المرجوة منها، لذا فإن تدريس الجغرافيا بفروعها المختلفة وخصوصاً السياسية والعسكرية لا ينبغي بأي حال من الأحوال أن تنعزل عن تلك الأحداث والتطورات.
وعبر التاريخ كانت إهتمامات الشعوب لحماية أنفسهم والدفاع عن ممتلكاتهم ولمواجهة الأخطار والقوى العدوانية التي تسعى لإخضاعهم والسيطرة عليهم وعلى مواردهم المختلفة، لذا فإن الدراسة المختصصة تسعى إلى أن تزيد من معلومات وقدرات المهتمين في مجال الدراسات العسكرية، حيث أصبحت الجيوش لا تستغني عنها أبداً لتحقيق أهدافها المختلفة.
وبناءً عليه، تطرق الفصل الأول من هذا الكتاب إلى الجغرافيا العسكرية وأثرها في الحروب والنزاعات وعلاقة الحروب بالجغرافيا، أما الفصل الثاني فقد تناول الحديث عن الجيومولوفولوجيا وأهميتها في الميادين الحربية المختلفة، وفي الفصل الثالث فقد تعرض إلى أهمية مفهوم العوائق الهندسية في العمليات العسكرية ومفهوم تخطيط هذه العوائق.
أما الفصل الرابع فقد تحدث عن الجبال وأهميتها في التخطيط الحربي وأساليب القتل في الجبال وتجاربها، أما الفصل الخامس فتناول فيه تكنولوجيا الخرائط والعسكرية والحربية، أما الفصل السادس فقد تعرض إلى جغرافية سيناء وهضبة الجولان العربية لما لها من أهمية بالغة سياسية وإستراتيجية للأمة العربية.
الفصل السابع والأخير من هذا الكتاب فقد تناول الجغرافيا العسكرية بين الماضي والحاضر والإستفادة من بعض آراء القادة والجيوش العربية الإسلامية.
