فؤاد بطرس إنه صنْعُ نفسه سيرةً في سِفْر مذكِّرات، مِن الأَلف إلى الياء خَطَّ بجديَّةَ حياته روحاً وحرْفاً، خَّططَ لمسيرته، وعاها، تأَهَّب لها... حاول... عزَم... أَقدَم... من المدرسة إلى الجامعة، فإلى وظيفةِ أيَّام العشر، فإلى القضاء، فالمحاماة، فإلى السياسة ومناصب الحُكم، تلك رحلة العمر، فكان منها ما قد كان وما لا يزال معظَمُ أَثره وتأثيره إلى اليوم، حتى إذا تقاعد "المعلَّم" مثلما بات يُلقَّب، لم يتقاعس، بل استوطن شبابَ التسعين، لم يفتأ يدأَب، يجدّ، يتمثَّل، يتعالى ثابتَ الخطو على أرض الواقع.

(...) هكذا قرأتُ فرافقت، بين سطور المذكِّرات، منجَزاتِ رجلِ دولة اعتنق لبنان، وعاصر نصف قرن من تاريخنا الحديث، فشارك في مراحل منه حاسمةٍ مشاركةً مسؤولة توخَّى بها، وهو القاضي السابق، ما لعلَّه يكشف الحقيقة، أو ما يعتقد أنه الحقيقة، رجاءَ أن ينصف أهلها، ليس يخفى على فطنته عمق الفجوة، أو الفجوات، ما بين الحقيقة والواقع في بلدٍ صعبِ المراس جُبل سوادُه على المخالَفة والتحدّي في ما قد يقال له "صراع الأضداد".
