هذا كتاب يجمع بين طياته أشعار الشيخ "أبي الفيض محمد بن عبد الكبير الكتاني" في المعارف والمدح النبوية بعد أن كانت متفرقة في القراطيس لا ترى إلا بغتة ولا تنظر إلا صدفة، ويصعب العثور عليها في الكتب التي وردت فيها رغم أهميتها ذلك أنها بمجموعها تؤلف متناً شعرياً مغربياً غير متداول.
هذا وقد اعتمد معد هذا المتن وهو الدكتور "إسماعيل المساوي" في صنع الديوان إلى ترتيب الأشعار على حروف المعجم وذلك ليسهل على القارئ التعريف إليها حسب قوافيها، ولم يضع لكل قصيدة عنواناً إلا ما كان منها ثابتاً أو مصرحاً به من قبل الشاعر، لأن تداخل الأغراض على مستوى القصيدة الواحدة في معظم شعر الكتاني، لا يسمح بتصنيفها حسب الأغراض، ونشير إلى أنه قد رتب الديوان ترتيباً معجمياً، حسب حروف راويها وحركه بدءاً بالسكون فالضمة فالفتحة ثم الكسرة.
كما اعتمد في تحقيق الأشعار المقابلة والمقارنة، قصد توضيح الاختلافات والزيادات الموجودة في كل مصدر، مرحجاً الأقرب إلى الصواب مع التعليل عند الاقتضاء. كما التزم بقواعد الرسم المعروفة حالياً في الكتابة، متجنباً ما درج عليه النساخ. واعتنى بشكل الأبيات شكلاً تاماً، وشرح الغامض من الكلمات والمصطلحات الصوفية، بالاستناد إلى المعاجم اللغوية والصوفية، مستعيناً بالاستشهاد في القرآن الكريم والأحاديث النبوية وأشعار العرب وأمثالها، كما آثر الإشارة إلى تداخل نصوص الكتاني مع نصوص أخرى.
هذا وقد قسم هوامش التحقيق إلى قسمين أولاً: هامش التحقيق والمقابلة: خصصه لذكر مصدر النص وتخريجه ثم بيان الأغلاط اللغوية والعروضية الموجودة وغير ذلك إثبات ما اعتور النص الشعري من خلل. ورتبها حسب أرقام خاصة. ثانياً: هامش الشرح والتعليق: يلي، مباشرة، هامش التحقيق، مفصولاً عنه بخط مستقيم، خصصه لشرح الكلمات الغامضة والمصطلحات الصوفية، وتفسير بعض الأبيات، والتعريف بالأعلام والأماكن... كما اعتنى بتخريج الآيات القرآنية والأحاديث النبوية وأشعار العرب وأمثالها والتي تأثر بها الشاعر أو تقاطعت نصوص الشعرية معها.
