ولصورة الغلاف حكاية، كنت أبحث عن صورة معبرة للغلاف وخاصة وأن هناك كثيرًا من الصور للكاتب والمفكر الموسوعة عباس محمود العقاد في الكتب والمجلات والصحف ولكن تمنيت في قرار نفسي أن أجد بورتريه يعبر عن المظهر والجوهر معًا وبالصدفة وقع نظري على بورتريه رائعًا له رسمه الفنان القدير "طوغان" وهو رسام كاريكاتيري له باع طويل في هذا المجال وكان موجود ضمن بورتوريهات رسمها لرموز مصر خلال تلك الفترة حينذاك، وأقام لها معرضًا في نادي كان يطلق عليه "نادي رابطة مصر وأوروبا" وذلك في اوائل شهر ديسمبر 1949 فكان لهذا البورتريه وقع عميق في نفسي وقلبي لقد جعل الفنان رأسه ضخمًا مملؤًا بالعلم وعينيه ضيقتين تدلان على طيبة القلب وذقنه بارزة تدل على قوة الارادة.
كان العقاد انسانًا بسيطًا بطبيعته يعتز بكرامته ويدافع عن مبادئه وآرائه وحريته ولديه الجرأة على مهاجمة خصومه مهما كانت مراكزهم! دفاعًا عن الحق والعدل وفي فصول هذا الكتاب تعيش مع جوانب شتى من حياته الادبية والاجتماعية والسياسية فتملأ عقلك بنور المعرفة والتجربة وتعرف أن هذا هو العقاد "الموسوعة" رحمه الله وجعل الجنة مثواه.
