ظهرت البابية في إيران كشعبة تشعبت من الدين الإسلامي، وانقلبت فيما بعد إلى البهائية فتغيرت فيها العقائد وتبدلت وابتعدت عن الإسلام وناوأته، ولم تبق أية علاقة تربطها بالدين الإسلامي، وامتدت البهائية إلى أوروبا وأمريكا وحملت إليهما وفيهما مبادئ إصلاح العالم وفسخ الشريعة الإسلامية، والقضاء على الشيعة الإمامية ونسفها من جذورها.
هذا الفكر الذي نشأ في إيران وحاربته الدولة حرباً شعواء تابع طريقة فهب العلماء المسلمون والمفكرون والأدباء يفندون ادعاءات هذا الفكر والداعين إليه، وقابل التيار المناوئ لهذا الفكر تيار اعتنق البابية والبهائية ودافع عنهما في حوارات ومقالات ومحاضرات وكتب.
