ثراء المعنى يعني: كثرة المعاني للفظ، أي أن يكون اللفظ صالحاً لأن يدل من الإطلاق الواحد على معان متعددة ومغاز متكثرة على سبيل البدل، وبمعنى آخر: أن يكون اللفظ في موقع كلامي بحيث يحتمل في الإطلاق الواحد مجموعة من المعاني، فكما يصلح لهذا يصلح لذاك وذاك وذاك. وحول هذا المعنى يأتي كتاب "ثراء المعنى" في القرآن الكريم الذي نقلب صفحاته والذي يمثل عملاً حديثاً في صياغته ومبناه، فهو يفتح باباً جديداً لإعجاز الكلام المجيد وتبيان محاسنه. جاء ذلك ضمن بحث تناول فيه المؤلف أولاً ثراء المعنى في القرآن الكريم كمصطلح متبعاً ذلك بسرد لبعض خصائص العربية، ليتحدث من ثم عن الأسباب الموجبة لثراء المعنى.
