هذا كتاب مسافر عبر القارات، يجمع بين جلدتيه يوميات ناقد سينمائي يتجول في عواصم العالم مطارداً أفلام السينما، في رحلات قام بها عبر ثلاثة عقود ونيف، من القاهرة إلى الجزائر، وتونس والمغرب، ومنها إلى باريس، ومن باريس إلى لندن، فامستردام، ومن مقر إقامته في لندن إلى إيران، والهند، وبرلين ونيويورك... رحلات بدأت مع أواسط الثمانينات، لمشاهدة أفلام السينما ناقداً سينمائياً، ومحكماً في لجان التحكيم لمهرجات عربية وأجنبية.
في مقدمة يومياته يعترف أمير العمري بأن السينما والسفر والكتابة أفق في مغامرة، ويومياته سطور كاتب لا يتوقف عن البحث في الجمال الفني، والمعنى، والإنسان.
رحلته في دنيا السينما إنما هي طواف في مدار ملهم فــ "عالم السينما نفسه هو الذي ألهمني ودفعني إلى التعرف على الثقافات الأخرى، التي تتجسد على نحو أو آخر (...) من خلال السينما كان إكتشاف المدن"، ومن "الإبحار في التاريخ والتأمل في فنون العمارة والسينما والتصميم الفني، ومحاولة العثور على مفاتيح المدن المختلفة.
جاء هذا الكتاب الذي أعترف أن تجربة كتابته كانت بالنسبة لي بمثابة إكتشاف أيضاً للذات، للنفس الباحثة عن الجمال وعن متعة إكتشاف العالم"، إنه العالم في حقيبة سفر.
وقد نال عنه جائزة ابن بطوطة للرحلة المعاصرة.
