"لعل أول ما نضع في حقائب سفرنا هي الملابس، فالسؤال "ماذا سنلبس هناك؟" حاضرٌ وملازمٌ لمفردة السفر، ثم تتعدد مقتنيات الحقيبة من مكياج، إلى عطور، إلى أحذية، إلى كتب إلى أدوية... إلخ.
وعندما نصل إلى المكان المقصود نجد وجها يطالعنا باستغراب، وجهًا يحزم كل ما حرصنا على أن نُوْدِع في حقابنا، ورغم هذا نُخرج لوازمنا ولا نمنح هذا الوجه المندسّ فرصة للخروج. ومع استمرار وجودنا نرى أن هذا الوجه معنا، يتدخل في أمور كثيرة، مثل ماذا نلبس؟ ماذا نأكل؟ ماذا نقول وبأي أسلوب نقوله... إلخ.
وكلما طال البعد ازداد هذا الوجه حضوراً متمثلاً في الحنين والتشوق والرغبة في معانقة ذلك الوجه الذي ظننّا أننا نهرب منه، فإذا بنا ننغمس فيه أكثر.
ترى هل نستطيع أن نفرّ من جلودنا، من عاداتنا، من تقاليدنا، من أقربائنا وأصدقائنا، من أفراحنا وأتراحنا؟ إذا استطعنا ذلك استطعنا أن نترك الوطن خارج الحقيبة ونسافر من دونه".
