"فرنسيس فتح الله مراش" شاعر كاتب، خيالي من الطراز الأول طالب مؤلفه "غابة الحق" بالحرية لجميع الناس حتى العبيد، دعا فيه إلى السلام دعوة صارخة فرفع صوته في أشد الأيام إدلهماماً، وبلباقة الأديب والكلمة الطيبة فعرف كيف يؤدي رسالته ويرفع رايته ليطالب بحرية الإنسان في عهد سلاطين بني عثمان... وغرضه إيقاظ أمته العربية من سباتها الطويل في ظلال الاستبداد والذل والعبودية. وعرض رؤية إصلاحية شاملة في كافة أبعادها الفلسفية والفكرية.
وهذا الكتاب يتضمن بالإضافة إلى كتاب غابة الحق، مجموعة مقالات ومناظرات ومراسلات نشرها فرنسيس مراش على صفحات إحدى المجلات البيروتية بين عام 1870 وحتى وفاته في منتصف العام 1874. ومنها مقالات في "التمدن المتوحش" و"القرن التاسع عشر"، "الجرائد"، "رسالة من حلب"، "المرأة بين الخشونة والتمدن".
