يتقدم الإعلام الإلكتروني اليوم بشكل متسارع ليسبر أغوار الفضاء مخترقاً الحدود المكانية والزمانية، بفضل الثورة التكنولوجية في وسائل الإتصال التي سهلت عملية نقل الأخبار وسائر المعلومات الثقافية والترفيهية وأغلب ما يحتاجه المستخدم من تواصل مع الآخرين.
والإعلام الإلكتروني بكل أنواعه من مواقع وصحافة إلكترونية وبوابات ومدونات... إلخ، دخل المعترك التكنولوجي بكل جديده المنظور، فلم يقف عند حد النص، وإنما تجاوز ذلك ليستخدم جميع الوسائط المتعددة من النص والصورة بنوعيها الثابتة والمتحركة والصوت والرسوم الثابتة والمتحركة والفيديو، إذ لا تخلو اليوم المواقع الإلكترونية من إستخدامات الوسائط المتعددة، فبها يكون الموقع أكثر جاذبية وتفاعلية من غيره الذي يستخدم بعضاً من الوسائط المتعددة كالنص والصورة الثابتة وكأنه صحيفة ورقية فيما يغض الطرف عن إستخدام الوسائط الأخرى أما جهلاً بتقنيات تطبيقاتها أو العجز عن دفع الكلفة المادية المترتبة على التصميم والتحديث وأجور التقنيين.
ومن هنا، فالكتاب يأتي للكشف عن إستخدامات الوسائط المتعددة في الإعلام الإلكتروني لا سيما المواقع الإلكترونية الإخبارية والمواقع الإلكترونية للإذاعات والفضائيات، إذ إعتمدت الدراسة على عينة متنوعة بإختيار ستة مواقع إلكترونية منها عربية وأجنبية ناطقة بالعربية وعراقية، تشمل مواقعاً إخبارية ومواقعاً لإذاعة ومواقعاً لفضائية للمقارنة في ما بينهم لمعرفة مدى إستخدام الوسائط المتعددة (النص، الصورة، الفيديو، الصوت، الرسوم)، وما هي أكثر عناصر الوسائط المتعددة إستخداماً وأي المواقع أكثر إستخداماً لها في أثناء مدتين زمنيتين للبحث 2012 و 2014.
