اللعب عند الأطفال ضرورة وعلى المسؤولين عن رعاية الطفل أن يَعْلَمُوا أن اللعب أمر مفيد له، فاللعب يدعم مهارات التعلم لدى الأطفال ويشعرهم بالمرح والمتعة، فكل طفل له مجموعة من الخصائص المميزة له، والتي تحدد الأسلوب المناسب لتعليمه ورد فعله على ما يقوم به.
كل هذه الأمور بالإضافة لفهم إهتمامات الطفل ستمكن الكبار من عمل الألعاب التي تحفز الطفل على التعلم أكثر من خلال اللعب.
كما أنه على الكبار الموازنة بين توقيت تدخلهم، ووقت التراجع حتى لا يعتدوا على حق الطفل في الإستكشاف ومتعته في التعلم والنجاح بعيداً عنهم والإحتفاظ بذلك لنفسه.
إذا كان الطفل يعاني من صعوبات خاصة تعوق لعبه وبالتالي تعلمه فمن واجب الكبار إدراكها وبذل أقصى ما في وسعهم لتعويض الأثر الناجم عنها.
ورغم رغبة الأسرة في التأكد من أن الطفل يتعلم من المدرس مباشرة، فإن المساعدات الإضافية التي يمكن أن يتلقاها الطفل في المدرسة تعد أمراً هاماً، لأن كل طفل في الفصل له الحق في الحصول على نصيبه كاملاً من وقت المدرس، كما توجد بعض الأمور العلمية التي يمكن أن تؤثر على إتخاذ القرار مثل مدى بعد المدرسة عن منزل الطفل، ومدى قدرة الطفل على الحركة، وما يتمتع به من الإستقلاليّة، وكذلك ما إذا كانت الأسرة تستطيع تقديم المساعدة في أوقات شعور الطفل بالمرض أم لا.
غير أن أسر الأطفال الطبيعيين يخشون من أن يحرم أطفالهم من حقهم في الحصول على فرصة تعليم كاملة حيث أن جُل الوقت يصرف على تعليم الأطفال ذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة.
وأيضاً الأطفال ذوي الإحتياجات الخاصة هل سيكونون صبورين أو سيدركون والفروق بينهم وبين الأطفال الطبيعيين ويزيدون من الصعوبات التي يعانون منها، وإذا كانوا كذلك فما السياسة التي يجب أن تتبناها المدرسة في التعامل مع هؤلاء الأطفال.
فهذا الكتاب وضع لمساعدة الأهل والمربين في معالجة تلك الأمور ويبين مدى أهمية اللعب في حياة الأطفال جميعاً.
