فتساءل الرجل عن مضمونه، قلت: إنهم شعراء اتهموا تهماً مختلفة، كالزندقة والإلحاد والعصيان والعشق، ولأسباب ذاتية أحياناً، وتم إعدامهم من طرف ذوي السلطان خاصة، كالخلفاء والأمراء والولاة والقضاة، والأسياد، وبطرق مختلفة، كالخنق والقتل والشنق والسجن حتى الممات، وبأساليب أخرى متنوعة.
وبدا الرجل منشرحاً وهو يرحب بالفكرة ثم اختفى.
وبعد مدة، عثرت عليه صدفة واستفسرته عن مصير المقدمة، فقال: لقد كتبتها بالفعل، وكانت دموية، فأعدمتها، قلت: كيف؟ قال: مزقتها إرباً إرباً، فقلت لماذا؟... قال: إنها المهنة.
