يتهاون بعض المؤرخين وبعض عامة الناس في الحديث عن بعض الصحابة رضي الله عنهم، ومواقفهم تجاه الأحداث التي جرت في حياتهم، فيتناقلون بعض الوقائع التي تسيء إلى بعض صحابة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وأمهات المؤمنين دون تمحيص أو تدقيق، اعتماداً على مصادر غير موثوقة، وروايات صادرة من بعض الجهلة من الروافض والمبتدعين والزنادقة والمنافقين واليهود والنصارى.. الحاقدين على الإسلام العاملين على الكيد له في كل زمان ومكان. فهم لا يتورعون عن القدح في صحابة الرسول الكرام، مخالفين بذلك أوامر الله ورسوله التي وصفتهم بالعدالة والاستقامة.
وفي هذا الكتاب الفريد في بابه، والظريف في صورته وجلبابه يحاول المؤلف الشيخ "محمد صالح أحمد الفرسي" الدفاع عن مواقف الصحابة وذلك بعد تدقيقه في المراجع التاريخية الموثوقة وهدفه أن يبين للقارئ مواقف الصحابة كما هي، لا كما يريدها المعرضون، ويفترض الحاقدون. المضطلع على هذا الكتاب يجد أن المؤلف قد أوجز القول في هذا الباب الواسع ولكن دون خلل، فقد حقق المسائل ووزن الوقائع، وتحرى الحق، وأنصف الكل، ولم يتعصب للبعض، فجمع ولم يفرق، ووحد ولم يشتت، وأوضح لكل ذي بصيرة أحوال صحابة الرسول رضوان الله عليهم، ومواقفهم الحكيمة في معالجة ما يعترضهم من أمور ومشكلات، وأنهم في كل تصرفاتهم مجتهدون في نصرة الحق وإعلاء راية التوحيد.
